What is Republic Day in India?
On August 15, 1947, India gained its independence from British Raj. However, January 26, 1950- the enactment of the Indian constitution, we celebrate separately. January 26th marks the sovereign, secular, and democratic setup of the country. This national holiday is widely celebrated in India with the Republic Day Parade in the capital state of New Delhi, as well as in numerous other cities across the nation.
The festivities begin at Raj Ghat in New Delhi, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. The annual parade is presided over by the President and Prime Minister of India. Armed forces gather to show their excellence and march in honor of those who laid down their lives for India. The festivities are accompanied by regional dances, patriotic songs, and bold colored flowers and high flying flags adorning the streets.
