3 Unforgettable Indian Recipes

India has tremendous regional cuisines that are unfortunately little known in what we call the West. With all due respect to dosas and Tandoori chicken, we thought we would like to feature some lesser-known regional dishes from India. Here are three unforgettable Indian recipes you must try!

Prawn Balchao

We begin in Goa with its cuisine heavily influenced by the Portuguese. We chose to begin here because we wanted to feature a seafood dish. Westerners tend not to think of seafood when they think of Indian food and that is a shame. They are really missing out. First, grind Goa’s Recheado Masala spice mix made up of chili, cloves, methi, ginger, garlic, black pepper, mustard, sugar, and Sambar tamarind, with haldi and jeera if you can find them. For prawn balchao, the marsala spicy mix is blended – very finely – with vinegar. The dish has a bright tang that complements the prawns. Fry the prawns, then set them aside. Fry garlic with julienne of ginger and curry leaves if you can find them. Add onions and brown, then stir in the masala. Only at the end are the prawns added back in to avoid overcooking.

Salmon with Mango Masala

This delicious recipe is perfect for a summertime dish to WOW any guest! Salmon Mango Masala is a savory dish that is perfect for foodies who want to try something new. The combination of spices and heat makes this dish the perfect way to stay cool while eating something delicious. Plus, it’s easy to make so you’ll be able to impress your guests without spending hours in the kitchen. All you need are a pack of salmon fillets, a few curry leaves and seasonings, and a few fresh ingredients! Try using Sambar’s Gourmet Mango Coconut Masala to add more fresh ingredients and extra flavor to this amazing dish!

Awan Bangwi

For dessert, we have a dish from Tripura, India’s smallest state, located on the extended Eastern arm of India. It is a simple but delicious rice cake wrapped and steamed in a leaf. It is fine to substitute a banana leaf for the traditional Lairu leaf. Use sticky rice and mix it with cashews, raisins, and Sambar organic ghee. Yum!
